87lb ENGLISH (LOVE MACHINE) BULLDOG-HER NAME IS BELLA
We picked up Bella at the airport, we had the pleasure of her company for 8 hours, her owner was on another flight and we easily volunteered to greet and keep her company for the wait. 87lbs of muscle, agile, easy temperament, just a joy to be around. (She be loved and trained well) She had a comfortable traveling crate and was quite content when we picked her up after being in the crate for close to 12 hours. Quick wiz and dump and the off on a leash running adventure in the park. We brought her home and our crew met her, no problem; I opened the door and each one of our dogs greeted her and then out and running in the backyard. In this picture you will see Miss Bella and our Juno, 1/10th the size of Bella. They connected and Juno would not leave her side, she was still looking for her this morning. Bella is healthy, not carelessly bred, no breathing problems….Bottom line to this, I love Miss Bella. I want to quote something from the Sun Magazine, “We have a secret in our culture, and it’s not that birth is painful. It’s that women are strong.” Laura Stavoe Harm
HOWLING WITH THE DOGS
I sing with myself and it is not the most harmonious sound, but then again it is my voice. Dogs and I were off on an adventure in the local Mountains when we had to pull over because an ambulance was hauling down the road with sirens blaring. Big dog Moe started to howl, nice melodic howl, I joined the howling and we were harmonizing. Mandy the Mini Schnauzer just couldn’t stand it any longer and she joined the duet and we were ‘Howling Trio’ from Calico Basin. What a great beginning for the hike; First time I had the Chorgi (Chi-wa-wa/Corgi) and the Moe Man (Rottweiler/Shepard) unleashed, besides the dog park and swimming pool. They were right on; running off on their own adventures but coming back to find me. (I hid behind bushes and boulders) I was pleased to say the least–another trio of canines and me having the freedom to be.
Life is good, these pleasures cannot be bought but totally enjoyed. Namaste to all!!!!
An Evening with Rita Mae Brown
If you ever want to spend a few hours listening, laughing to somebody who is intelligent, insightful and not mean with her observations….Rita Mae Brown is the one to read and in my opinion one of proudest ‘DYKES’ around…
NINE CATS AND FOUR DOGS–WHAT THE PHUQUE!!!
It is early in Las Vegas NV, 5:15AM and I have been putzing around the home for over an hour; feeding dogs, cats and watering the fruit trees and other trees in the backyard. I have had a large yield of apricots, ‘Artic Star’ nectarines, pomegranates and peaches are looking good. Who knew, what could be grown in the desert if you don’t have a lawn–yeah!!! Front yard has a Pecan Tree that is close to 50 years old and just puts out loads of nuts,
While I was watering the trees (no automatic system, it is like a zen for me to personally take care of the growth) the animals were following me around and the count started…Nine cats and four dogs, how did that happen? It must be true if one is not a breeder themselves; you finish the statement. Bottom line to this ramble, all the members of our household are healthy, aging sort of gracefully and quite content.
Have the best day you can, I know I will, adios.
Missed the death sentence!!!
Miss Katelynn is living with us an experiencing another life. Her owner died and she is an old lady dog that was going to be put down because nobody wanted a big 13-year-old with bad eye sight, slight dementia and weakness in her legs. Oh no, it so happens she came to finish out her life with us and a little MSN, quality food, some exercise she has regained her strength and has found her forever home. I was told she was a Schnauzer, but looking at her somewhere in her lineage she might have had Schnauzer, but her purple black tongue and the shape of her ears has me believing she is Sharpei and ? Life is good with Katelynn and the cats can’t even give her an attitude.
Sadness–Frida has gone to the otra lada
Frida, my friend and partner in adventure has passed. I knew she she was an old timer, but I did not think Cancer was going to be the path to death. I thought for sure she would give me nod, go to sleep and that would be it. Sadly, it happened to quickly and we had to help her to the next adventure. Frida, thank you for being so youthful even when maturity should have set in.

BUSH AND HIS BOYS–WHAT A DISASTER OF DUMBNESS!!!
Does this frat boy even care? How does one administration completely ignore what is going on in the real world. We as Americans have got to take matters in our own hands, things that we control, not the world but our everyday life and see the change. If we don’t purchase gasoline at $4.50-$5.00 a gallon, the price goes down, if we don’t succumb to mass merchandising, purchasing power increases and if we continue to stay creative and not lazy, we can make it happen for the best. Buy, buying, buyer are not the answers. I know it is a quaint idea, but sharing and communicating has more impact then a plastic toy that is discarded. This ramble has no final answer, just the point of simplicity and communication can go farther then weapons of mass destruction. Know your enemy, keep them close and don’t stop trying to communicate. Similar to Warren giving the invocation at the inauguration. Reverend Lowery is going to be standing side by side with the ultra right wing Christian fellow…Enough, off to the snow with the dogs.
HIKING IN VEGAS FOOTHILLS
RED ROCK CONSERVATION AREA!!!! Just got back from a fabulous adventure inside Red Rock. Willow Springs at the La Madre turn off was the area we hiked today; cool, not windy, clear beautiful very early morning; gates open at 6:00AM and we were there at gates parting. Willow Springs/La Madre is more or less 8 miles in on the 13 mile circuit–rabbits getting back to den, Burros trying to graze, foxes getting back to their dens also–all on display as we make our way to the canyon. Park the car, let the dogs out and off we go; it used to be fast pace but the dogs and friends are a tad older and a bit slower, but the joy of the early morning hike keeps the humor going. Dogs are going off on minor adventures as we stick to the trail and then all of a sudden the mad yelps, high pitched screaming and across the road comes a Bighorn Sheep and the dogs are right behind in pursuit…I think the Bighorn was a tad older as he as well as the dogs were not moving in the youthful vigor state. (slow motion to be exact) Nice size sheep, big old white butt climbing the hills ahead of the dogs–dogs pooped out first and headed back to the human pack; tongues hanging, and time to sprawl for a moment. We continued on our adventure and about 2 miles up the trail is a pool, water constantly flowing and the dogs jumped in and hung out in and around the pool for at least a half hour, until they started shaking–cool, crisp, mountain water. If you have a chance to experience more of Vegas then the casinos, try hiking in Red Rock or at Mt. Charleston–it has a grounding affect and gets one ready for the BS they have to face every day. Bring the camera and enjoy.
