TOP TWO AIR FORCE OFFICALS–ASKED TO STEP DOWN

What a polite way to say, “You fuc… up badly!!!”  Defense Secretary Robert Gates ousted the Air Force’s top officials, holding them to account in a historic military shake-up, for shipping nuclear missile warhead fuses that were mistakenly shipped to Taiwan.  Oh my that is but one incident the other was a B-52 bomber  mistakenly armed with six nuclear-tipped cruise missiles and flown across the country without anyone realizing nuclear weapons were aboard.  (Who needs terrorists–we got our own fu.. ups)

This is an on going happening…My friend was on a B-52 with nuclear bombs aboard, no warheads attached and the bombs were accidentally dislodged from the bay and down they went.  Where did they land you ask, well they were lucky, they were dropped in Alaska in a unpopulated region and nobody but the crew and the U.S. Air Force knew about it.  My friend came over to my home and was in tears and his whole body was shaking when he told me of his misadventure.  He thought it was his fault, he was the navigator on the plane for this exercise and it was on his shift that the bombs dropped.  I knew he was in for it, the Air Force knew he was emotional wreck and were following him around to see where he went and whom he talked to.  Few days later an Air Force investigating team came to my home and tried to find out if any and how much he had told me about the near disaster.  My mother told them to get off the property and not to bother us–did they abide by her wishes?   The investigating crew left the property but no is the answer to the question, they tried in all kinds of ways to find out; plain clothes guys hanging out with the regs and going to events we all went to, but they did not fit in–so they were ignored.  The bottom line to this story is I never saw my friend again, word from his friends is he had a nervous breakdown and was discharged from the Air Force.  What a shame, from what I have been told accidents of this nature are not unusual. 

I wonder what happened to him and if he ever got over the experience.  I tried to call his mom, her telephone # was changed and so it goes, wondering…
